How KBC Got from There to Here.

This marked the debut course of the KettleBell Concepts Group Exercise Instructor Training program nationwide.

How KBC Got from There to Here.

6 years ago, Dave Ganulin, KBC Founder started KettleBell Concepts in NYC. He was the first to use kettlebells with his clients at the Sports Club-LA/Upper East side. Absolutely nobody knew what they were and he was often looked at with a combination of fear and amusement by other trainers who thought he was out of his mind. People on the street stood gave him a wide bearth because he must have been hunched over and sweating for 4 years straight and gone through at least 8 dollys purchased from the same store in Koreatown.

After literally dragging kettlebells in a backpack and aforementioned dolly to to nearly every gym in Manhattan (literally) and being laughed out of nearly all of them, he finally had the good fortune of meeting Carol Scott and Dr. Paul Juris, both currently with Equinox at the time. They both loved the kettlebells. Success! (Sort of!)

Dave was then introduced to Adam Cronin, who at the time was the first Personal Training Manager at Greenwich Avenue Equinox, NYC. After Dave made Adam (and his cadre of Greenwich trainers) believers in the bells, Dave and Adam then set about trying to convince the customers as well as the trainers to give them a try. Thanks to their joint guerilla marketing efforts and the assitance and encouragement of other Equinox Personal Training and Fitness Managers (many of whom have since unfortunately left) Dave started teaching semi-private classes at Equinox Graybar, Wall, 43rd, Greenwich, and others. Shortly thereafter, Michelle Khai came into the mix and became the third partner in KBC.

Following Dave's vision of a top notch education-based company built around kettlebell training, version 1 of the Level 1: General Performance and Health Track was written.

Now (approximately 5 years and 1200+ instructors later) KBC returns back to Equinox with Keli Roberts at the helm of the KBC Group Exercise program.

The myths amongst fitness professionals (and consumers) still persist. "They're bad for your back." "They're the same as dumbbells, barbells and machines." "They're only for advanced users." "They're dangerous." Ad nauseum. The kettlebell Group Ex Instructor Training Program is, certainly, at a much more basic level than the Level 1: General Performance and Health track, 2-day course. (And it absolutely NEEDS to be!) The group ex course teaches instructors how to SAFELY progress people along in a KB class at a very basic level. It is KBC's hope that all those who take this course eventually take the 2 day course, and visa versa.

Now, 6 years later, the fitness community is slowly starting to understand how incredibly valuable the KB is and why, in fact, it deserves a place in every trainers toolbox. However, that 'place' can only be gained by those trainers and institutions who insist on proper hands-on training with the rigorous academics to go along with it PRIOR to bringing them to clients.

Once again, KBC looks forward to continuing to bring the best programming currently available for kettlebell instructors to the Equinox community.
